Republic, Not Empire
Whoever listed the form of government of the United States as "Federal Empire" instead of "Federal Republic" is clearly advancing an agenda. "Empire" seems a far too controversial term. Very funny though...
- Yeah, that agenda would be vandalising WP. Thx bringing this to our attention. Signaturebrendel 01:49, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Why is the US defined as a country when it is in fact a federation? Foofighter20x 23:12, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
The US is a country. Even if it has states it's still a country. Most countries have provinces or states or prefectures or whatever, but they're all countries.
Thought most countries' "states" don't have as high a degree of autonomy as a federation :-) Henners91 06:57, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
- well if you search federation in wikipedia, one of the countries listed is the USA...71.62.10.130 00:50, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- Clearly a mistake. John 02:27, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
What is Beano?
Since when is the US referred to as Beano?Omg starburst 00:19, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- Since someone vandalised the article. Signaturebrendel 00:37, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
"House Speaker"
I cahanged the infobox to read "Speaker of the House", instead of "House Speaker", as the former is her proper title. -- R'son-W (speak to me/breathe) 21:47, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- Good. Thx. Signaturebrendel 02:49, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
John Roberts(R)
Why isn't there an "(R)" by his name when all the other people in government have there party listed by their names.--71.170.41.7 19:59, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
- Becuase his is a non-partisan position, whereas the president and House Speaker are partisan positions. Signaturebrendel 20:28, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
Ireland GDP
I was just comparing the ecomonomy of Ireland and the USA when I noticed that the USA's GDP/PPP was ranked as third. Irelands was ranked as fourth despite being higher...
- The US is ranked 3rd. for GDP PPP per capita, but is ranked 8th. for nominal GDP per capita. Ireland has a higher nominal GDP per capita but a lower GDP PPP per capita. Signaturebrendel 03:31, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Number of States is incorrect
The US has 50 states, not 55. The article seems to be locked, I don't care to find out why, so I cannot correct it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 148.177.68.50 (talk) 22:33, 12 April 2007 (UTC).
- Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Signaturebrendel 05:21, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
Science
Under the sub-article "Culture" is another smaller article titled "Science." Does this science article belong within culture? Should it be integrated within the "innovation" sub-article? Or does it have any real significance at all? Abdalla 01:38, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well it does have significance but should be inegrated into the text pertaining to innovation. Signaturebrendel 02:40, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Pres
System of Goverment: Could somebody add the word "Presidential" in there somewhere. It doesn't make sense to list France as semi presidential if the prime example of full presidential is not listed that way. The consistency in the format of the info boxes implies a certain cosistency in the info provided. Know what I mean? —Preceding unsigned comment added by {} (talk • contribs)
Article Size
This article is way too large. Perhaps it would be better to put some of the information into the main articles and chop off some unimportant info. See here. Universe=atom 15:38, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, we are well aware- I have only recently cut 7Kbs from the article. Thank you for your input. Best Regards, Signaturebrendel 22:12, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
Relevance?
Is this article really necessary? I don't see how it's important enough to keep. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.251.246.130 (talk) 02:54, 4 May 2007 (UTC).
This article is very important. It is a compilation of information about the subculture of "Military brats" which are more prevalent than you believe.
- I disagree. There are many other subcultures in the United States worth mentioning, but this is an article about the United States, not a list of subcultures. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of random information. See official policy Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not. --Coolcaesar 17:44, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
2nd largest exporter?
In the economics section, it is stated that the US is the worlds largest importer and the 2nd largest exporter. Well somebody should really look into that because the US is actually the worlds largest exporter as well.
- Actually, it is you who should take a look at those statistics ;-). The US is the world's second largest exporter of goods, following Germany, and the world's largest importer of goods. This is quite the factual issue and the US is simply the world's second largest exporter. Signaturebrendel 01:42, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Article size trivia
Trivia note: While the article's source is over 119K at the moment, the rendered page's body is only 64226 bytes long, well within the guidelines at WP:LENGTH for a significant topic. Way to go with the with the references, folks. MrZaiustalk 13:04, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Interesting! This article isn't that long afterall, just 64kb-pretty concise considering this article's complex subject matter. I have long suspected that it's our references that take up so many KBs-and we should definitely keep those! Thanks for crunching the numbers! Regards, Signaturebrendel 17:10, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Country Size
The facts in this article are incorrect. The largest countries in the world rank 1. Russia, 2. Canada, then 3. USA. The USA is not larger than Canada.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.233.121.29 (talk • contribs)
- It is in land area, not total area. --Golbez 19:35, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yup. See the main article, Geography of the United States or the source cited in the article for a more complete discussion of the topic. The United States is slightly larger than Canada when excluding bodies of water, and both are slightly smaller than China. When including bodies of water, it Russia, Canada, and then either the US or China, depending on whether or not certain lands claimed by India but governed by the PRC are counted MrZaiustalk 19:46, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Do you have any evidence to prove? any web site I can find out? thanks! 74.12.181.141 02:41, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
